A Torch Against The Night

You are a torch against the night—if you dare to let yourself burn.

Most
people are nothing but glimmers in the great darkness of time.
But
you are no swift-burning of spark. You are a torch against the night—if you dare to let yourself burn.
Everyone keep asking me, isn’t ATATN supposed
to be out at 8/31 how come you get the book so fast? Did I get an ARC? I hope
so, but sadly...no.
Did I accidently go to Book-con?
Unfortunately…still no.
THEN HOW ON EARTH I GOT THE BOOK SO FAST? AT
MERELY THE DATE OF AUGUST SIXTH? I don’t know? Santa just give it to me as an
early Christmas gift?
What? You don t believe me? I’m pretty
serious!!!
See? All right, to tell the truth…I get it
from Strand Book Store. As you might notice that I disappeared into ashes
previously…and you might have heard me mention a thousand of times, but I was
in New York!!! What’s best, since I stayed at NYU’s dorm Carlyle Court…which is
merely 3 minutes from Barnes and Noble, 5 minutes from Strand Book Store, and 6
minutes from NYU Book Store. And you might have guessed what happen…I spent
most of my NYC journey at those fantastic bookstores. So then at 8/6, I unfortunately
caught a cold…I know, bloody hell.
All I could do was spent my entire Saturday at
dorm room and hoped to recover soon. Till afternoon, after I finish my dinner…I
thought “why not go to Strand for a deeper tour?” (Which I hadn’t entire finish
it before.) So then I wonder around the bookstore up and down, trying to find
some bargaining books. Suddenly…when I was about to leave the store, I caught a
glimpse of A Torch Against The Night at the book car. I was like…what? Was I
mistaken? And…
I even ask the clerk whether this book was for sell or not!!! And without doubt, as soon as the clerk said it was avilable…I grabbed the book and paid without hesitation. What’s even better? it’s a bargaining price!!! So I only got it with $10!!!! Now you know how excited I was…and my NYC book haul…welll…gain another book…and I almost (already) over-weighted my suitcases.

Elias and
Laia are running for their lives. After the events of the Forth Trial, Martial
soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a
perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.
Laia is
determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—to
save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is
determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at
freedom.
But dark
forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must
fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor
Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, the most heartbreaking
of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.
Bound to
Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own—one that might
destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped
him escape…and kill them both.
What’s three of the most anticipated book
release of August? Forever Doon, The Beauty of Darkness…and A Torch Against The
Night!!!!
Although it’s always a hard journey to read An
Ember in the Ashes series, the words is somehow…a bit harder than others? And I
know it isn’t the longest novel nor has the longest paragraph…it still seems
take me so long to finish this book. But is it worth it? Definitely!!! The
series is getting better and better! And you know what is the latest new? It is
going to become a four-book series! It isn’t a trilogy anymore!!! (However…it
means that we are even further toward our ending…) I know…you concern about the
story more, so listen to me, brother and sister. Gather around to hear the
story of Laia the Serra and Elias the once-before Mask.
Laia & Elias
There is hope in life.
To my delight…they become closer and closer…which
is excepted. They are running together! Oh wait…that’s not the point. So the
truth is…without Laia’s love life…I love everything of her. her bravely, her
courage. But mention of her love life? Umm…I know love is sometime a tough
choice…but can you stop wandering between both of the boys? (Just kiss
Elias!!!) No…just kidding. (No way I am.) In ATATN, Laia will find out more
about herself, and discover her…unreliable ability. Elias? Well…he is
definitely not like other mask…as we know before. He could simply left Laia as
soon as they break out Serra, but did he? No! I honestly believe that even
without the vow, Elias will help Laia regardless of the danger.
He is Elias, after all.
Helene
Loyal to the end
The most miserable character in the entire
series? Sorry Helene…you got it. Her life is so…terrible, frantic…whatever you
mean the worst. She was forced to become the Blood Shrike of Marcus, the mad
Emperor. She was forced to choose between Elias and her family. She was forced
to face the horrible deed done by the Commander. Tell me, was there anyone else
worse than this?
And…I suddenly found it pretty hard to do a
character review for ATATN…so back to all. The book? Better than An Ember in
the Ashes. The plot twist?
The emotion?
So
relaxing. It is a journey for heart-racing, anticipation, thrilling and
anxiety. The book isn’t really fast pace, but you still enjoy every moment with
them. The betrayal, the schemes…all perfectly perfect. And this time, not only
do we set in Serra, but we also get the entire kingdom. The dessert, the forest…even
the underworld. (Not exactly…but close.) And after I finish ATATN? I already
had a vision of which pass the book will head to…but…the plot twist gives me
more anticipation! And last—let yourself burn into the story!
