Percy Jackson : The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson Series 1)

Percy Jackson : The lightening Thief
By Rick Riordan
Oh my god! I’m actually writing a popular book review! Does anyone who read book hasn't heard the name of Percy Jackson? (Even my dad knows what it is...) so if you don't know this book...don't call yourselves book lovers! I'll do a movie review along with the book review, so for those who are hesitated about the bad critical movie of Percy Jackson, look inside, and I'll tell you why you should watch it and why not. Let's start with the book!

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.
I was interested in this book after I saw the introduction from the magazine... (Poor Taiwan students, we got a huge bag of books to study and with those extra works to do.) But even I hate those magazines; I must gratefully thanks that one, because I found one of the greatest series after I read Harry Potter. Yes, you heard me, Percy Jackson is as wonderful as Harry Potter. (Although Harry Potter will always be my all-time favorite, but...I can spare some love for Percy Jackson as well.) As you read from the summery, the main character was the son of Poseidon, god of sea. (And all those other things...horses, earthquake and blablabla)  I fell in love with Greek mythology after I read the series and even made a project after the Greek mythology! (Crazy bookworm, huh?) The reason that this book was so great is because it's actually a modern demigod story. (I believe this is the first book about demigod? At least it is the first mythology-base fiction story I read.) The plots are entertaining, absolutely funny and well organized, you won't fell boring while reading this book, besides, you'll somehow gain a lot of knowledge when reading this book. Let's talk about the character! Oh my god I love Percy Jackson so much!!! He's so cute! (He's even better than Harry Potter...both hero, but Percy just seems more...likable.) He found out his true identity and faced it with a positive attitude, he was willing to sacrifice for his friends and family. (That's why I like him, a true friend/hero NEVER abandons his friend, and even Athena kept telling Percy that was his biggest shortage.) But I believe even a great hero don't have to give up his love to save the world, he just need wisdom to make all the things right. (Unfortunately...Percy is Seed weed Brain...so he need...) A novel won't be great without heroine! Let me introduce you...the fabulous, the beautiful, the smartest--Annabeth!!! (Cheer!) I find myself so much in common with her! We are both book lovers, smart (Don't mind...I'm pretty smart...some time.) And the biggest coincidence is we both want to become an architect!!! I believe the only difference between us is that she is a demigod and I'm not. (I won't tell you my physical strength is horrible...the only sport I am good at is swimming.) And another important character is Grover! He's not a human...kind of...he's a satyr! Half human half donkey...hey! (Sorry Grover, I know you're half human half goat.) I love the three of them, they help each other through difficulties and they were great partners. They were all courageous and faced challenge calmly.

Percy Jackson : The Lightning Thief movie
Director: Chris Columbus
Starring: Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Abel
Yeah yeah, the movie...where should I start? There's too much to complain and too much to say. Once a director said that “You can either choice not to follow the book and make a good movie, or you can choice to follow the book and make a bad movie.” But please…look at Harry Potter, Twilight (Although I don’t practically like it), and Hunger Game…they all follow the books and were great success. Why not Percy Jackson?
That's say why no Percy Jackson fan like this movie...including the author himself. Once I saw a twitter about a fan who complained the movie, and Rick Riordan reply with how he thought about the film...guess what he said? He said to him, the movie was like an atom bomb. Yes, BOMB! Now you know how horrible the movie is. It has nothing to do with the book!!! Ahhhh! Everyone is so angry about that, the movie just change all the plot! We only got Percy, Annabeth (She's even not I the right hair color!), Grover, Luke, Chorine, Poseidon, Zeus, and Percy's mother. Thank god that the movie still remember the reason why Percy left Camp Half-Blood was to rescue his mom and bring back the lightning bolt...that's the only same thing we got. While the other stuffs like pearls, Casino, Medusa...they appeared in the movie, but why the three of them went there had nothing to do with the book!!! (Screaming!) Pearls supposed to be the gift given buy Poseidon (Or you'll say the Nernid? Never mind.) However, in the movie, the director made it become treasures, the access to the underworld!!! Do you ever read the book? That's ridiculous! And we can seldom see monsters, the monster that appeared in the movie was Hydra, and it should emerge in the second movie!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!  That's impossible!!! Where's Percy Jackson? You can change the movie under the name of Son of Poseidon or the Son of the Ocean! (Something likes that...) The movie has nothing to do with the book! (Only the characters...) (Repeat: It has nothing to do with the book!)
(Claim down, Vivian, Claim down...) But, if we forget that this movie is called "Percy Jackson", it's quite a good movie. The scene was great and beautiful, the monsters look real, and the plots aren't bad at all. It'll be a great adventure movie that is based on Greek mythology. And the dialogue is funny too! Yet, the big "BUT" is still there, it's called Percy Jackson, not just any movie written by the script writer, it already has an author!!! So...if you're a fan of Percy Jackson, you'll find yourselves extremely disappoint at the stories: no Clarisse, no Hade's weapon, all of the god that shouldn't appear has appear...and much more. Yet if you just want a great Greek mythology movie and teens hero, this movie contains all you need and is interesting. What do you think of the movie? Comment down below and let me know! (I personally keep persuading myself during the whole movie...this is not Percy Jackson, it's Son of Poseidon; it's not Percy Jackson, it's Son of Poseidon...)
