Catching Fire (The Hunger Games Series 2)

Catching Fire

By Suzanne Collins

Sparks are igniting.
Flames are spreading.
And the Capitol wants revenge.
What should happen when the star-cross lovers win the champion and get home? Happily ever after? Of course not! How will that be interesting if all those trouble was over? They are the main characters!!! If nothing happens to them…then who will? And what’s more, as we all know the ending of Hunger Game, Katniss became the favorite of capital…but at the same time, due to her rebel action, she became the rebellion of the President Snow. Although some believe that her act was to prove her love toward Peeta…it seems that some others don’t. They view the act as a revolution, and waiting for the right time to fight.

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.
Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.
So…apparently, Katniss’s trouble was only about to begin. After the victory tour, Katniss and Peeta should be preparing for the 75th hunger game!!! And it should be a huge event, since every five years, hunger game would be different. For example, extra people might be added into the game. Yet this year…what kind of surprise would they get? (What’s for sure is that nothing good…) Yet…Katniss originally planned to escape with Gale, along with their family and Peeta. But once Gale heard the news of revolution, he refused to leave…and then the announcement of 75th hunger game was there: the tributes would be chosen from the remaining victors. Which means…Katniss would be forced to be in the game again!!! Ahhh!!!! No!!!! she should live happily after with Peeta…wait…but we all forget that this was a dystopia…nothing good would happen unless President Snow was died. So, Peeta and Katniss was forced to fight once again, but facing more difficult situations, and more dangerous opponents. Well…oh! And I forgot to mention…before the 75th hunger game was announce…Peeta and Katniss was about to marry…even the wedding dress was ready. That makes the entire country extremely angry. But…an announcement was an announcement, nothing could be changed, no matter how the audiences acts or how the tributes feel.
To me, Catching Fire is my favorite book among the series. Unlike the first book that Katniss and Peeta’s only rule was to survive, this book adds more point in it. How Katniss affect the entire country and how her behavior motivated people to stand up and fight. Yet, at the same time, Catching Fire doesn’t have political part as much as Mockingjay. So you can not only watch the excitement of the 75th Hunger Game, but also the dark side of the revolution. What’s more, with their experience gaining more and more, Katniss, Peeta and Gale all changed, as well as the people around them. Katniss was forced to take up the burden of her behavior, and her every word must be spoken carefully. Peeta…well…he just successfully played his lover-boy part and be the kindest person in the word. Gale must see Katniss and Peeta keep acting their romance…but to his worry, their act of love might become true. Just neither of them knows. Who also changed much are Katniss mother and sister. Her mother learned to put her grief aside and support the family. Well…she didn’t have to support them, since Katniss was the winner, she can almost have whatever she likes. But she learned to be careful and watch, what’s better, while they had so much money, she managed to help the poor and healed them. She once again took her part as a healer. As for her sister, she was the favorite of capital, everyone loves her…so…no one will harm her. But she also learned the skill of healing from her mother, and be more careful. Their every action was being watched by President Snow.
So, lady and gentlemen…welcome to the 75th Hunger Game! And behold…the Girl on Fire!
