The Heroes of Olympus: The Mark of Athena (The Heroes of Olympus Series3)
The Mark of Athena
By Rick Riordan
Percy and Annabeth are united!!! Yayaya! Finally~ Also, the seven demigods in the prophecy are going to work together and set off for the quest. And from the title, I believe you already know this story will be mainly about Annabeth, the daughter of Athena. What’s the mark of Athena? And what happened to all the gods and goddesses? Follow the leader of the seven demigods: Annabeth, and pick up your courage to travel to the ancient places, where no demigod has ever survive…
Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can’t blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon masthead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.
And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving demand: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close—the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?
Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader, but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.
Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare....
Oh! (Sigh~) Must Percy and Annabeth be apart again? But that’s all right, they’ll be alright, I know that. (Of course I know! No one will die this time! And because…I finish the whole series! HaHa!) But still, it’s hard to let go the person you love, isn’t it? Ahh! No more sad things! Let’s say, the funniest thing I’ve ever read is the first moment that Annabeth saw Percy in Camp Jupiter. Annabeth just…just… (Cough…haha~ I won’t spoil the surprising moment!) Besides Percybeth, there are still more important things to say, the heroes from two camps finally met! Of course, sailing with a war ship and landed on a warriors’ camp won’t be the best way to seek peace, it may lead to war between the two camps. Fortunately, there is a place in Camp Jupitar that no weapons are allow, so, with friends from both side, Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter finally talk! Such a historical moment! (Someone should take a photo of them…) However, when things were getting better, the fascinated boat and Leo did something unforgivable to Camp Jupiter…and…the seven great heroes must leave Camp Jupiter in rash… the journey to the ancient place was a vacation at all, monsters and evil gods appeared every moment, their lives were always in danger. Back to Annabeth, she must leave alone and face her biggest fear, in order to revenge for her mother. Hmm…like I said before, this series is too similar to Percy Jackson so I sometime felt boring for it… so I skipped a few chapter when I read the first time. (Haha…I just read Annabeth and Percy and Annabeth’s quest.) But still, the book is great and I love that Annabeth had her own POV. Since the first two books is not mainly about her, yes she appeared, but not important enough. (Nonsenses! Annabeth is the one who was in Percy’s mind and bring him back!) Yet you can’t ignore that she was not in any of the quest. I still can’t adapt that having Annabeth in so many part of Percy Jackson series, she only appeared a few time in The Lost Hero and Son of Neptune. Thankfully, it’s all going to change during the following books! And needless to say, the book is once again going in a fast pace and well organized. And I like the book that we can seldom read the characters murmuring, and they usually hold a positive attitude to face the challenges, and at the meantime, their dialogue will contain important information even they were complaints. Rick Riordan just know how to write fabulous book, doesn’t he? Once again, we can be WOW by the book and fall in love with it. Even I sometime felt tired about the same problems that happened to the heroes, I still indulged in it without any exception.
